6 State CPA Society Leaders Address CPA Licensure Requirement Changes

Last week, I got to host an important discussion with leaders from six major state CPA societies. We talked about updating CPA licensure rules to strengthen the profession.

CPA Practice Advisor published a great summary—check it out here: https://www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/2025/03/14/6-state-cpa-society-leaders-address-cpa-licensure-requirement-changes/157390/

What’s Changing?

The 150-hour education rule for CPAs isn’t going away, but states are adding more flexibility. This helps people from all backgrounds become CPAs without lowering standards.

We also talked about:

  • Fixing mobility rules so CPAs can easily serve clients across state lines.

  • Why states need to team up instead of acting alone.

  • How these changes will take time but matter for the profession’s future.

Big thanks to CPA Practice Advisor for sharing our conversation.
