Sage Copilot's data leak reveals the hidden dangers of AI in accounting
Sage Copilot (their new AI chatbot) reportedly showed one customer's financial data to another.
The incident happened when users asked Sage Copilot for a list of recent invoices. The AI displayed invoices from other businesses.
This is one of the big security challenges of integrating AI into SaaS business systems.
If the same AI can access multiple companies, it could unintentionally reveal information to the wrong customer.
Your human accountant might have access to multiple clients, but they intrinsically understand client confidentiality. AI does not.
That's why the "walls" between customer data must be built into the AI foundation, not added as an afterthought.
As accounting and fintech companies rush to implement AI, this won't be the last security breach.
